Abstract

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding coverage decreased by 32% in 2018 and needs concern from all sectors. Early initiation breastfeeding (EIBF) practice needs to be increased because it is associated with the success of exclusive breastfeeding and can prevent infant mortality by 22%. The EIBF rate in Tangerang City in 2020 is 30,6% far below the national rate (58,2%).

Objective: The study aims to analyse the associated factors of EIBF practice among postpartum mothers at post pandemic era.

Method: The research conducted using a cross-sectional study with a quantitative analysis approach.  Of 84 postpartum mothers in Tangerang City were involved taken using purposive sampling technique. Data were analysed using chi- square test statistics.

Result: The significant related factors to EIBF practice are maternal ideal age range for pregnancy , education level, occupation status, experienced COVID 19 infection, knowledge level, the health worker support and health services. Logistic regression test obtained that the dominant factor associated with EIBF practice was health worker support factor (p value = 0.013, Exp (B)=25.73 CI: 1,996-332,245).

Conclusion: The health care worker and provider’s role in supporting EIBF practices should be encouraged by strengthening the implementation of the baby-friendly hospital policy and the 10 steps to successful breastfeeding.
